The most common washer style is the flat washer – a thin circular disc with center hole to accommodate the fastener with which it is paired. These washers spread the tensile load on a bolt over a large surface of the fastened members. Flat washer categories include USS, SAE, structural and fender – which fender typically have a larger outside diameter than a standard flat washer.
Split Lock Washers
The split lock washer holds a bolt/nut fastening closed or locked after the nut is tightened. It is widely used in mechanical installation, machinery and manufacturing where vibration is encountered. The lock washer works against the loosening that can take place in these situations.
